(Port) Wine of the month September 2018: Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port 2011
In 2011 amazing wine and Port was bottled in the Douro valley. Lately an enologist told me how happy and privileged he was to be able to make wines in 2011. The red Douro DOCs as well as the Ports will enter the history books as wines with finesse and complexity as well as with an acidity and tannic structure that allows them to age extremely well. Quinta do Vesuvio’s Vintage Port is 2011’s primus inter pares: Dark red color with violet reflections. Dark-red fruit and spicy notes in the intense bouquet with blueberry and cassis. Very balanced, but strong palate, long and complex with tons of fruit, perfect supporting tannins and acidity. Long, complex and spicy aftertaste. 19/20
